Family of Whitney Houston to Bobby Brown: Stay Away from Bobbi Kristina!

The family of Whitney Houston is NOT a fan of Bobby Brown.

Following reports that his former in-laws are trying to bar him from his ex-wife's funeral this Saturday, sources now say Houston's loved ones are taking it a step further: They don't want Brown having contact with his daughter.

Peace, Bobby Brown

Specifically, Whitney's mother, Cissy, is attempting to block Bobby from getting too close to 18-year old Bobbi Kristina because she believes the singer is simply looking for a cut of Houston's estate/fortune, estimated to be over $20 million.

The bad blood between parties is nothing new, either, as many of Whitney's family members blame Brown for being a negative influence on both his ex-wife and his daughter, who has also reportedly struggled with drugs and alcohol.

Perhaps, though, if anything positive can come out of Whitney's death, it can serve as a wake up call for all involved and a reformed Brown and mend his and his child's relationship.

Music Smasher searches Spotify, Rdio, MOG and more in one shot

Music Smasher
When it comes to streaming music services are you something of an agnostic? That's not necessarily a bad thing -- Spotify, Rdio, MOG, Grooveshark, etc... all have their strengths and weaknesses (Spotify, for example, is a great source for Norwegian black metal). The trouble is, it's neither fun nor easy to jump from app to app, web site to web site just to find what you're looking for. Music Smasher simplifies things by letting you search most of the big sources in online streaming tunes simultaneously. It trolls the four services mentioned earlier, as well as SoundCloud and Bandcamp. Well, it searches Grooveshark in theory, but every query we tried simply returned undefined results. Hit up the source to try it out for yourself.

Housing starts rise modestly to start new year

Construction of single-family homes cooled off slightly in January after surging in the final month last year. But a rebound in volatile apartment construction kept builders working.

The Commerce Department says builders broke ground on a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 699,000 homes in January.

Construction began on 508,000 single-family homes last month, a 1 percent drop from December and the first decline in four months. Still, December single-family homes were revised up strongly to show builders started 513,000 homes. That's up from the initial estimate of 470,000, a difference of 9 percent.

Apartment building, a more volatile category, jumped 14.4 percent. Building permits, a gauge of future construction, rose 0.7 percent.

Euro turns higher against dollar on US jobs data (AP)

NEW YORK ? The euro is turning higher against the dollar after government said the number of people seeking unemployment benefits last week fell to the lowest point in nearly four years.

The euro was down to a three-week low against the dollar before the jobs report was released on fears that Greece won't get a $170 billion bailout package it needs to avoid defaulting on its debt next month.

The euro is up to $1.3108 in afternoon trading Thursday from $1.3063 late Wednesday.

The Labor Department Weekly applications for unemployment benefits dropped to the lowest level since March 2008.

Tamra Forces Vicki's Boyfriend To Grope Her On 'The Real Housewives Of Orange County' (VIDEO)

It was a double date gone extremely bizarre when Tamra lost her sanity to jealousy on "The Real Housewives of Orange County" (Tue., 9 p.m. EST on Bravo). She and Eddie were on the date with Vicki and Brooks, but as the drinking progressed, Eddie and Vicki started getting along just swimmingly. In fact, it all got to be a bit too much for Tamra.

Clearly, she felt threatened in the situation, so she grasped for the most obnoxious thing she could think of to absolutely ruin any pleasantness that might have been happening. "Brooks, we're going somewhere," she said as she grabbed Vicky's boyfriend's hand and placed it on her breast.

"He did it. He went there," she crowed, while Brooks denied having anything to do with what just went down. Luckily, Eddie and everyone else there saw exactly what Tamra did, though they probably don't know why.

Tamra's argument was that Brooks might as well grab her since Eddie was "making out with [Vicki] almost." Her solution was to tell Eddie to not drink anymore. It makes him too friendly.

"Don't act like a f*****g idiot anymore," Eddie countered, deliberately grabbing his glass and downing his drink. As for Vicki and Brooks? Well, they couldn't have been more uncomfortable, actually going to the classic discomfort standby, "How about those Cubs?"

"The Real Housewives of Orange County" airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo.

Game Backup: What's the easiest way to backup Games ...

Posted in by admin on February 15th, 2012

Each video game you buy is an investment. Creating backup copies of the games are important way to protect your investment. However, finding the easiest method to copy games may be difficult.

There are really only a couple of strategies to copy games that works well.

Modchip Method of Copy Video games

The benefit to use a modchip is it?s fairly inexpensive and many of ripping software you can find online will work pretty well. The price of a modchip starts at around $25. There are lots of free burning software programs to choose from and the majority of them are fairly good.
*WARNING* Understand the risk that comes with installing a modchip to copy games.

Once the game console is opened, the warranty is void. Incorrectly installed modchips have been know to damage the game console beyond repair . Installing firmware updates to the game console is no longer an option since the update will notice the modchip and disable the console.

Softmod Method of Copy Video games

The better way to copy games is known as ?Softmod.? There is no hardware to install, everything is done with software. You can continue to update your game console since the warranty is still intact.

The key is to chose the right software. The price for this kind of software starts at around $40. While the initial expense might be a bit higher using the softmod method, it?s a lot better and safer in the long run. Your game console remains in factory condition so it?s still covered by the warranty. If you?d like to take your games to somewhere else to play, you can bring the copies to avoid losing or damaging the original games.

Best Approach to Backup Video games

I?ve tried many backup software in the past and found a lot of them are either too expensive, too limited in features, or just simply didn?t work.

Out of all the software I?ve tried, my favorite is EasyBackupWizard. This is actually the cheapest and has most features. The biggest reason I pick that software over other game copy software is it works on all Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3, Gamecube, your Pc, and even Dreamcast!

Another reason I like EasyBackupWizard is that it makes playable copies each and every time. This may sound simple but I?ve discovered with other software is that half the time it makes bad copies which are not playable. With this software, you never have to stress about bad copies again.

Another neat feature is you can also copy DVDs. You can make DVD from video files on your computer.

I found they are having 50% off sale on EasyBackupWizard. To copy games, this is the {best solution out there.

Progress in talks on payroll tax, jobless benefits (AP)

WASHINGTON ? House-Senate talks on renewing President Barack Obama's signature payroll tax cut made significant progress Tuesday, and aides said an agreement could be announced later in the day.

"Barring a blowup, a deal will probably be acknowledged tonight," a Democratic aide said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to assess the private negotiations.

Under the emerging pact, a 2 percentage-point cut in the Social Security payroll tax would be extended through the end of the year, with the nearly $100 billion cost added to the deficit. Jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed would be renewed as well, with the $30 billion or so cost paid for in part through auctioning broadcast spectrum to wireless companies and requiring federal workers to contribute more toward their pensions.

The payroll tax cut and renewing jobless benefits were key planks in Obama's jobs program, which was announced in September. The payroll tax cut benefits 160 million Americans and delivers a tax cut totaling $2,000 this year for someone making a $100,000 salary and a cut of $20 a week for a typical worker making $50,000.

It's not only a win for Obama but takes the payroll tax fight ? which had Republicans on the defensive ? off the table for the fall elections campaign.

The potential agreement also would avert a huge cut in Medicare payment to doctors, financed by cuts elsewhere in the federal health care budget, a Democratic aide said.

Any agreement would depend on the reaction of the House GOP rank and file, who were scheduled to discuss the matter at a meeting Tuesday evening.

But Senate Democrats were rebuffed in an effort to renew expired tax breaks for individuals and businesses at a cost of about $20 billion.

Republicans, who just Monday said Democrats hadn't been negotiating in good faith, agreed with the positive assessment.

"There is definitely positive progress," said Michael Steel, a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio.

A GOP aide, also requiring anonymity to discuss the talks, said negotiators were finalizing an agreement on reducing the number of weeks jobless workers would be eligible to receive unemployment benefits to a maximum of 63 weeks in most states. Maximum benefits are now 99 weeks in states with the highest jobless rates.

And in a win for the Hispanic community, a Senate Democratic official said it appeared Republicans would drop a proposal to require that low-income workers who claim a refundable child tax credit be required to have a Social Security number.

The proposal was aimed at blocking illegal immigrants from claiming the credit, but the idea created a firestorm among Hispanics who pointed out that many of the children affected by the cutoff are U.S. citizens.

Republicans also were expected to drop a proposal requiring unemployed people to enroll in GED classes to obtain benefits, and a GOP proposal allowing states to employ drug tests as a condition of receiving unemployment benefits would be scrapped as well. But Republicans won a provision requiring jobless people to be more diligent in job searches as a condition of receiving benefits.

Tuesday's developments came just a day after GOP leaders announced that they would relent on a demand that the cost of renewing the payroll tax cut be defrayed by spending cuts elsewhere in the budget. That made it significantly easier for negotiators to come up with savings to pay for the remaining items.

Obama weighed in Tuesday, urging Congress to act immediately to renew both the payroll tax cut and jobless benefits for millions of workers who have been out of work for more than six months.

"Just pass this middle-class tax cut. Pass the extension of unemployment insurance," Obama said at a White House appearance. "Do it before it's too late and I will sign it right away."

Democrats in the Senate warned Republicans that they would pay a political price for extending the payroll tax cut while allowing millions of jobless people lose their unemployment benefits.

Whitney Houston Estate Seeing Posthumous Surge

LOS ANGELES -- Whitney Houston's career is getting a post-mortem boost, but it isn't likely to be as big as the one that enriched the King of Pop's estate after his death.

Like the late Michael Jackson, Houston was in the midst of an attempted career revival. She was found dead at age 48 on Saturday in her Los Angeles hotel room on the eve of the Grammys, a stage she once ruled.

It could be weeks before the coroner's office completes toxicology tests that could establish the cause of death.

In an outpouring of grief ? and a desire to remember her soaring voice and upbeat personality ? Houston's fans have propelled her decades-old recordings to the top of sales charts on iTunes and Amazon.com. Twitter recorded more than 2.5 million Tweets about her within two hours of her death.

Not unlike Jackson's posthumous star turn in the movie "This Is It," Houston will star in a film that is set for release this fall. In addition, dozens of the six-time Grammy-winner's unreleased recordings may someday be released to a public grieving her loss.

"It really is a finite universe of celebrities that are able to transcend their own death to create commercial opportunities," said David Reeder, vice president at GreenLight, a subsidiary of Corbis Images that helps license the images and work of late icons such as Albert Einstein and Johnny Cash. "People want to remember her back in 1986 at her peak, when nobody was doing it better than she was."

As a former model who crossed racial barriers, Houston's image might find a home with a fashion brand, much like Elizabeth Taylor, who continues to grace fragrances, or Audrey Hepburn, who has been given numerous tributes by clothing companies long after her passing.

If Houston breaks into Forbes' list of top-earning dead celebrities in 2012, she will likely get in "towards the bottom end" with single-digit millions of dollars, Reeder said. Michael Jackson dominated the list in 2010 and 2011, after his death three years ago.

Mark Roesler, chief executive of CMG Worldwide, a company that collects licensing revenue for the estates of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and others, said fans will be looking to fill the hole Houston left behind on the eve of music's biggest night.

"For all those reasons, it creates a situation where people feel like something's been taken away from them," he said.

There are no signs that Houston made savvy investments like "the gloved one." Jackson had a 50 percent stake of one of the world's largest music publishing catalogs, Sony/ATV. Houston was known for her voice, but not for songwriting, which can generate lucrative revenue from years of radio play.

Consider that many of her top-selling songs were written by others. "I Will Always Love You" was a song that Dolly Parton wrote and sang in 1974. "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" (1987) was written by George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam and "Didn't We Almost Have It All" (1987) was written by Michael Masser and Will Jennings, according to the National Music Publishers Association.

Houston's image took a hit after her appearances in the Bravo reality TV show "Being Bobby Brown" in 2005. To many, the documentary series with her ex-husband was a cautionary tale about a drug-fueled lifestyle that damaged her voice and ruined her career.

A hard-partying existence contributed to her failure to fulfill a $100 million recording deal she signed with Arista, now part of Sony Music Entertainment, in 2001. At the time she was reported to have owed the label six new albums and two greatest hits compilations. Since then, only four have come out, including a greatest hits collection that was not released in the United States.

It's unclear if any posthumous releases would be part of that recording deal or if the agreement is still in force. A spokeswoman for Sony Music and for her longtime producer, Clive Davis, declined to comment. Houston's publicist did not respond to requests for comment.

Lawyer Bryan Blaney, who represented Houston in a recent fight with her stepmother over the proceeds of a $1 million life insurance policy she took out on her father, said he did not handle her financial affairs. He said that if the singer did not have a will, the proceeds of any continuing revenues would go to her 18-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.

Whatever the case, as the remembrances of Houston continue, her estate will likely be flush with a stream of money that had slowed to a trickle in recent years.

Although she sold 22.6 million albums in the U.S. in her lifetime ? half of those through the best-selling 1992 soundtrack to "The Bodyguard" ? her latest release, "I Look To You," sold just 978,000 since its debut in 2009, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

It's not clear whether Houston had debts, but she lost homes in New Jersey and Georgia to foreclosure several years ago, and some reports said she had recently tried to borrow small amounts of money from friends.

Renewed interest in Houston may continue for some time.

Later this year, the singer will appear in the film, "Sparkle," in which she plays a mother concerned about the influence of fame and drugs on her three daughters, who form a singing group.

Houston sings a gospel song on camera and a duet with co-star Jordin Sparks over the credits in the film, which began shooting in October. The movie and a soundtrack are set for wide release in August through Sony Corp.'s TriStar Pictures.

"She was on top of her game," said executive producer Howard Rosenman, who saw a rough cut of the movie on Friday, a day before the singer's death. "She was really coming back."

Peter Hart: Bill O'Reilly Admits He Has 'No Blanking Idea'

2012-02-14-oreillygdp.jpg

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly celebrated the release of the White House budget by demonstrating on last night's program that there are a lot of things doesn't understand. Or at least pretends not to understand.

He started by making the same point many others in the press have seized on: Obama promised to cut the deficit in half in his first term, and he will fall short of that goal.

O'Reilly played a clip of his Fox colleague Chris Wallace putting this to White House chief of staff Jack Lew:

WALLACE: The president isn't close to keeping his promise to cut the deficit in half.

LEW: The plan that the president is going to be sending to Congress tomorrow will reduce our deficit to the point that over the period covered by this budget, the deficit as a percentage of GDP will be less than 3 percent, which means that we will stop having new spending adding to the deficit.

That is not that difficult to understand. Expressing the deficit as a share of the economy is a pretty conventional, as is paying attention to the budget deficit apart from interest payments, which is known as the primary deficit. But not to O'Reilly, who gleefully spluttered:

"What? What? With all due respect to Mr. Lew, I have no blanking idea what he just said. I have no clue."

He continued to be clueless throughout that interview, and in a subsequent discussion with Brit Hume.

But once upon a time, Bill O'Reilly did, in fact, understand this budget mumbo-jumbo. Here's O'Reilly speaking to Bush adviser Karl Rove (8/4/08):

ROVE: Yes. Well, look, first of all, let's--one point. I agree with you, over the long haul, big debts are difficult and dangerous. But let's also remember that we are--that what you need to do is look at it in terms of the entire economy. Our deficit this year, which is big, will be 3.3 percent of GDP.

O'REILLY: OK, I understand that, but the dollar is nowhere. And now there's less tax revenue because people aren't driving as much. And everybody's screaming. It's got to get under control.

So what's the difference? Simple: When George W. Bush was president, there was a need on the right to rebut arguments about the increasing budget deficit. Now some of the same people are really concerned about deficits. Bill O'Reilly is so concerned he's forgotten what he used to know.
